New Zealand Performers Honoured

New Zealand Performers HonouredCongratulations to Sam Neill and Jennifer Ward-Lealand who were recently honoured with the distinctions of the New Zealand Order of Merit. Sam as a Distinguished Companion, for his services to acting and Jennifer as a Companion, for her services to the theatre and community. It is great to have recognition at such a high level for such hard working and dedicated performers who are also actively involved in Equity. The New Zealand Order of Merit is New Zealand's highest honour to recognise outstanding service to the Crown and people of New Zealand in a civil or military capacity. The order comprises The Queen as Sovereign and Ordinary, Additional and Honorary members. The ordinary membership is limited to twenty persons living at any time. Additional members may be appointed, Members of the Order may use the letters "ONZ" after their name.

The Queen has been pleased, on the occasion of the celebration of the New Year, to make the following appointments to The Order of New Zealand:

                        To be Distinguished Companions of the Said Order:

                        Mr Nigel John Dermont (Sam) NEILL, O.B.E., of Queenstown - for services to acting

                        Ms Jennifer Cecily WARD-LEALAND, of Auckland - for services to the theatre and community
