Dancers at the Sydney Dance Company have threatened to put away their pointes and go out on strike unless they receive a fair offer on wages and conditions. Year-long negotiations for a new collective agreement broke down last week with management rejecting dancers' claims for a 5% wage increase per year, 1% increase to superannuation, long service leave "sabbatical", and injury-prevention physiotherapy. The Alliance has made applications to the Australian Industrial Relations Commission for a secret ballot order to vote in support of protected industrial action.
