Over the past 10 months the Alliance has been meeting with screen technicians about the freelance crew agreement. As you may know the Motion Picture Production Agreement (MPPA) sets the minimum conditions for crew working as freelancers in film and TV. The MPPA is about to be renegotiated and the new agreement will set the minimum standards for the future.
The Alliance will negotiate on behalf of members when we meet with SPAA (Screen Producers Association of Australia). Notices about the preparation for negotiations have been regularly posted in the weekly e-bulletin inviting crew to attend meetings. Alliance organisers have met with hundreds of crew over the course of the year on and offset. The overwhelming feedback from crew has been the importance of conditions that protect health and safety.
After meeting with crew the Alliance has developed a list of priority issues (a “log of claims”) that will be addressed at the negotiations. Before formal negotiations begin members will need to endorse their support for the log of claims.

Throughout the negotiations the Alliance will be running report back meetings to discuss how we are progressing. Members should attend these meetings and invite other crew to participate in the process.
The Alliance recognises all the members who have participated in the preparation for these important negotiations. The Alliance also welcomes and congratulates all the new members who have joined this year. We look forward to continuing our work together throughout the negotiations and planning for the future. |
