Alliance Condemns Censorship in Beijing
Friday, 01 August 2008

ImageThe Beijing Olympics are shaping up as the most restricted since the Nazis hosted the Berlin Games in 1936, Alliance federal secretary Christopher Warren said yesterday, following revelations that China will not lift its internet curbs for the for 20 000 journalists covering the Games in Beijing next month despite previous promises.

"This promises to be the most restricted Olympics - in terms of the reporting of the Games and its social and political context - since Berlin in 1936. As it is I think we're going to be seeing a very narrow coverage of the Olympic Games." The International Federation of Journalists has also condemned the censorship and demanded that all restrictions be lifted.
