Alliance Urges Downer Over Al-HajThe Alliance has urged Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer to intervene in the case of Al-Jazeera cameraman Sami al-Haj, who has been detained without charge at Guantanamo Bay since 2001. Al-Haj has been repeatedly tortured, sexually assaulted and interrogated for allegedly interviewing Osama bin Laden and trafficking arms for Islamic terrorists - claims which have never been proven. Alliance Federal Secretary Chris Warren has joined the International Federation of Journalists in calling on the Australian government to support Al-Haj’s release. Read his letter here.
