Cuts Continue At News Ltd
Wednesday, 03 June 2009

ImageThe recent announcement of 10 editorial job cuts at the Hobart Mercury means the paper’s owner, News Limited, has now axed at least 80 journalists from its Australian newspapers in recent months.

News staff are calling for any further redundancies to be voluntary, the discriminatory provisions in the redundancy agreement to be addressed and for discussions about options that could save jobs, such as reducing work hours. Stop-work meetings will be held around the country over the next fortnight. For more information or to join the collective push to get off your individual contract please call 1300 65 65 12.
