Fiji Media Muzzled
Tuesday, 21 April 2009

ImageThe Alliance condemns the severe censorship being imposed by Fiji’s military government and has joined the IFJ and other Asia-Pacific affiliates in calling for an immediate end to all forms of restrictions and intimidation.

Fiji’s crackdown on press freedom has seen the expulsion of foreign journalists, including ABC reporter Sean Dorney, the installation of military censors in newsrooms, attempts to censor the internet and the blocking of an ABC radio transmitter. Local newspapers and TV networks have been protesting the censorship by refusing to publish political stories.
