SA Winners Announced

ImageOn Saturday April 4, 300 people descended on the ballroom of the Adelaide Festival Centre to recognise South Australian journalists whose commitment to excellence best informs South Australia and the nation. Full of list of winners follows.

The Independent Weekly’s Hendrik Gout picked up the Gold Award for Journalist of the Year along with Best Print Journalist and the Award for Best Three Headings. Best Young Journalist was awarded to The Australian’s Pia Akerman.

For the second year running, Best Radio Broadcaster went to the ABC’s Peter Goers while the ABC’s Stateline presenter and reporter, Ian Henschke was awarded Best TV Broadcaster. In a first, Best Photographer was awarded to The Islander’s Sean McGowan, while Best News Photo went to The Advertiser’s Dean Martin for his emotive photo following a controversial stabbing in Adelaide’s CBD. Sunday Mail columnist, Mike Smithson picked up the Award for Commentary Analysis and Critique for the second time.

Two trailblazers of SA journalism were inducted into the Hall of Fame. The Independent Weekly columnist Don Riddell, who was editor-in-chief of The Advertiser from 1975-1985 and ADS7’s first news editor in 1959, and Pat Dunstan, former women’s reporter and editor at The News, The Advertiser and the Sunday Mail, on the Hall of Fame honour board
