Brennan and Lindhout released

Great news overnight to hear that Australian photographer Nigel Brennan and Canadian journalist Anna Lindhout have been freed in Somalia.

The two were kidnapped in Somalia in August last year and have been held in various locations around the country under appalling conditions ever since.

The news that they are now freed will be a great relief to their family, friends and colleagues in Australia and Canada. Their ordeal is a reminder of just how dangerous journalism can be.

The news comes at the end of a terrible week for journalism with the murder of an estimated 27 media workers in Mindanao – the worst single massacre in the media.
