Orchestra Victoria dispute ends

Alliance LogoPlayers and management of Orchestra Victoria have resolved their dispute and avoided the industrial action planned for Opera Australia's performance of La Traviata tomorrow night. Following a long-running dispute about the use of contract musicians, the board, management and the orchestra's musicians have agreed to maintain a permanent ensemble of players.

Adelaide Symphony members support their Victorian colleagues

Adelaide Symphony Orchestra musicians this week dusted off the red T-shirts from their successful “Great Cities Have Great Orchestras” campaign, in order to show solidarity with their colleagues at Orchestra Victoria.

Orchestra Victoria members are facing widespread cuts, and a push to casualise the orchestra by introducing contracts.

Liquor Laws And Live Music

ImageThe commencement of the new liquor laws from the Iemma Government last week brought long overdue reform to the regulation of entertainment and live music in NSW. "These laws, alongside recent reform of the NSW planning system which entirely removes the Place of Public Entertainment (PoPE) regulations, will deliver a streamlined environment for live music in NSW that will slash fees and red tape." said musician and Alliance delegate John Wardle.
