The Walkley Foundation is committed to fostering excellence in journalism. As the peak professional body representing Australian journalists, the Foundation presents a year-long program of events designed to support excellence and innovation in the Australian news media.
As our industry faces profound and far-reaching change, the Foundation aims to play a part in “future-proofing” Australian journalists by giving them the knowledge base and skills to face up to the new challenges which are reshaping our industry and changing the way we work.
We do this through our famed Awards program, which is known and respected throughout the news industry. But you may not know that the Walkley Foundation, in conjunction with the Media Alliance, also presents a raft of events and publications through the year, which are designed to encourage debate about the future direction of our industry, and training courses which give working journalists and media professionals the chance to acquire valuable new skills.
The Equity Foundation was established in 2002 to oversee Equity’s publications and professional development program. The aims and objectives of the Foundation are to advance the interests of professional performers and performance in Australia, and the interests of the Equity section of the Alliance.
The Foundation reports to the National Performers Committee whose membership is formed by performers around the country. Simon Burke is the Equity President.
Our professional program is developed in close collaboration with these and other performers throughout the country. All have identified how important it is to have opportunity to work with key creatives and to continue developing crucial skills.
Our program is constantly changing as we evaluate and refine the existing program and accommodate feedback and suggestions from performers who have participated in the program and those who would like to.
