Australian Film Industry To Fade Away? Federal Government Must Step In Now!

“The Australian film making industry remains in crisis,” said Simon Whipp, Director - Equity, Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance, as a survey by the Australian Film Commission was released revealing a continuing decline in Australian production and private investment. “The figures are scary,” Whipp said. “Last year private investment in the Australian audio-visual industry was around $8 million, a drop of 75% from five years ago to a new low of only 7% of production budgets.”

Dollars and Sense Seminars

The Equity Professional Program is happy to announce that in 2006 the Equity Dollars & Sense seminars will be held in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia. This seminar has been re-worked based on feedback members in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland gave us last year, and is designed to address issues such as what performers can claim on tax, how to handle superannuation when you have low or sporadic income or work multiple jobs, the differences tax wise for employees and contractors and how to get into good, simple habits to manage your finances better.
