Kate Woods, director of Looking for Alibrandi, Changi and Simone de Beauvoir’s Babies will be conducting an actor/director workshop for the Equity Foundation. This is a unique opportunity for 20 Victorian performers to learn from a director gifted in creating an environment where actors do fine work in front of the camera.

NSW Equity Mentor Program 2007 Extends Deadline

So you are finally part of the industry that you have worked so hard to get into, but you are finding it bigger, broader and sometimes more daunting and confusing than you expected. Do you sometimes wish you had someone who understood what starting out as a performer is like and could give you some advice? The Equity Mentorship program is an initiative that performers created for performers and it is being steered by experienced Equity member Roy Billing.  It was developed in recognition that most performers would welcome a helping hand at the start of their career.

Actor's Feature Film Agreement

A new summary of the Actor's Feature Film Agreement has been finalised. The Agreement covers performers in feature length and short films. The summary of the agreement can be found for download through the Resources option on the Main Menu, in the Actor's Equity folder.

 
News Just In - Make Your Own Fun - Perth 30 April

The Equity Foundation is disappointed to announce that the Make Your Own Fun work shop, scheduled for April 30 in Perth will not go ahead as planned on this date. We send apologies to our fantastic speakers who had committed to the event and to those performers who had registered. Stick Up For Aussie Film

The Australian audio-visual industries are at a critical crossroads, with funding declining, despite a clear mandate from audiences for more Aussie stories on our screens. Better incentives for international investment are a vital part of growing the industry, with a tax offset gaining increasing industry support. The government last year reviewed the range of support mechanisms being provided to Australia’s A/V industries, and the Alliance expects a response in the coming May budget. It is vital that members write to government today showing their support for a new greater incentive for private investment. Details here. 

 
Equity Newstart Campaign

Equity members are urged to write to Peter Garrett and Penny Wong calling for a reversal on Centrelink changes for performers as part of Labor’s election campaign. New rules mean performers are no longer exempt from an activity agreement, requiring them to seek work outside performance to be eligible for unemployment benefits. “A vibrant entertainment industry cannot thrive without a large pool of available workers,” said Director, Equity, Simon Whipp. Use the Equity template letter here...
