Based in Melbourne, Make Your Own Fun is aimed at performer members who are trying to get their own project and productions up and running, or who are thinking they might like to develop other tools in their arsenal - like writing, directing or producing. More information available here...

NSW and VIC Equity Mentorship Programs

The Equity Foundation is now accepting applications for performer members looking to be mentored in New South Wales and Victoria. The application form for the program is available here and a Frequently Asked Questions sheet here. Applications close 5pm, Friday 1st September 2006.

Dollars and Sense Seminars

The Equity Professional Program is happy to announce that in 2006 the Equity Dollars & Sense seminars will be held in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia. This seminar has been re-worked based on feedback members in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland gave us last year, and is designed to address issues such as what performers can claim on tax, how to handle superannuation when you have low or sporadic income or work multiple jobs, the differences tax wise for employees and contractors and how to get into good, simple habits to manage your finances better.

Jeannette Nelson Masterclass

Jeannette Nelson has begun her first season as voice and dialect coach at the Sydney Theatre Company. Previously based in the UK she has wide experience in both theatre and film.  The Equity Foundation has arranged for Jeannette to provide a masterclass to Equity members as part of the Equity Professional Program. The opportunity will be offered to twenty performers will be based on the theme of Voice and the Energy of Language. It will be held at the Sydney Theatre Company on 9 June 2006 from 10am, and will run for about 3 hours.  To apply for the masterclass financial members may email Kate Brady on kate.brady@alliance.org.au. Petition For Increased ABC Funding A Runaway Hit

Australians have been adding their names at a rate of one signature every five seconds to a petition seeking increased funding for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. The petition will be presented to federal Cabinet next week ahead of a Budget Committee meeting that will consider the next triennial funding allotment for the national public broadcaster. Some 20,000 signatures were added in the first 24 hours after the petition went online. The petition is still gathering signatures at an astonishing rate.

Our ABC deserves more than advertising

The federal government’s suggestion to introduce advertising on the ABC is a bandaid funding solution that compromises the integrity and independence of our national broadcaster. A recent review, commissioned by the federal government, into the adequacy and efficient use of ABC funding has found that the national broadcaster is efficient in the distribution of current funding but is in serious need of more.
