Winners in the Media Alliance and Sony Pictures’ Capote competition were drawn yesterday. Over 180 members entered the draw for 25 double in-season passes to see the Oscar-nominated film about Truman Capote's experience writing In Cold Blood starring Phillip Seymour Hoffman in the title role. Tickets are valid in participating cinemas in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth from February 23. Watch this space for future ticket offers. Winners list follows. |

Fairfax FCN Victoria Agreement Wins 11.5% Increase |

The latest Alliance collective agreement to be rolled over prior to the introduction of the WorkChoices legislation has been approved by the Australian Industrial Relations Commission this morning, Friday February 17. The commission certified the Journalists (Fairfax Community Newspapers - Victoria) Agreement 2005 without hesitation and the agreement comes into effect as of today. |

Phone Tap Threatens Press Freedom |

If federal government plans to give its security agencies new phone-tapping powers are accepted, journalists must assume their conversations with sources will be intercepted. This excessive threat to press freedom will not only deter confidential sources but may also lead to a culture of self censorship. |

Award-winning documentary filmmaker and former ABC producer Anne Delaney has identified a number of contentious areas in a notice of appeal after being convicted of “interviewing” a prisoner. Delaney was convicted on December 22, 2005 in the Brisbane Magistrates Court under s.100 of Queensland’s Corrective Services Act 2000 for having “interviewed” a prisoner, Louise Julie McPhee, at the Brisbane Women’s Correctional Centre. |
