ABC Offer on Table: Members To Decide

Discussions took place on Tuesday with management to develop a draft agreement that could be considered by members. Over the 12 months of negotiations your support through coming to union meetings, the strike ballot, the 24 hour strike and the rolling stoppages forced management to increase their salary offer and to remove their extreme working conditions claims. After two weeks of industrial action both unions re-entered negotiations.

Morley Most Outstanding

Morley received the 2006 Most Outstanding Contribution to Journalism Award during a presentation dinner in Brisbane this evening. Click here for a full list of winners. ABC Campaign Seeks Fair Wages

The campaign to restore fair wages for media workers at the government-owned ABC aims to improve the capability of organisation to function properly as the nation’s public service broadcaster. Workers at the ABC have suffered from a 16% decline in wages over the past decade when compared to media workers at Australia’s privately owned commercial networks and other public sector areas. Indeed, ABC management has admitted that the salaries it pays its employees are “not even in the ballpark” of what they can earn commercial broadcasters. Read full press release here...

Alliance Responds To Media Bills

The Alliance has delivered its submission to the Senate's Environment, Communications, Information Technology and The Arts Committee regarding its inquiry into the Broadcasting Services Amendments (Media Ownership) Bill 2006 and the bills relating to digital television, television licences and enforcement powers of the communications legislation after the bills were sent to Senate committee last week. The Alliance also responds to Minister Coonan's discussion paper on the two channels of spectrum for new digital services. Broadly, the Alliance supports measures that underpin a speedy transition to digital services but remains firmly opposed to amendments to the cross-media ownership rules and lifting of the foreign ownership restrictions.
