Walkley Documentary Award shortlist

Films about a community recovering from the devastating Black Saturday bushfires, an examination of an internal police investigation into one of its own, and a chronicle of a migrant community in Sydney’s west are finalists for the 2012 Walkley Documentary Award. The Walkley Documentary Award shortlist was announced last night at the Antenna International Documentary Film Festival finale in Sydney.

Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance federal secretary Chris Warren said the shortlisted films were excellent examples of the power and versatility of this longer form of journalism.

“Documentary filmmaking is a challenging form of journalism, but these finalists demonstrate the outstanding results which can be achieved through hard work, persistence and courage,” Mr Warren said.

Walkley Documentary Award finalists will be screened at The Walkley Foundation’s ‘What’s the Story’ media conference on November 30 at the National Film & Sound Archive in Canberra. The conference is sponsored by Centenary of Canberra, an initiative of the ACT Government to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Australia’s capital city next year.
